"The seven volumes of The Fleuron-A Journal of Typography were published between 1923 and 1930. They celebrated, but also largely contrived, the typographic renaissance of their time. Oliver Simon was the begetter of The Fleuron and the editor of the first four volumes-aided editorially by Stanley Morison, while Harold Curwen provided the opportunity and the printing skills. In 1925 Oliver Simon and Harold Curwen, pressed by other duties, happily transferred The Fleuron to Stanley Morison as editor and to the Cambridge University Press as printer-publisher. The seven volumes, totalling 1350 pages, are now virtually impossible to come by. Since the influence and interest of their contents have been in no way diminished by the passage of time or by the new technical devices of 'occasional' printing, a wide selection of the most significant Fleuron articles, profusely illustrated, is now published in a single volume: The Fleuron Anthology. By a happy chance Francis Meynell and Herbert Simon, two men who were associated with the original Fleuron venture and are known also for their own typographic achievements, have been available to edit this significant and handsome volume, adding their 'Retrospectus'. The illustrations to the chosen articles, a major feature of The Fleuron, are reproduced in their original size." --Cont.
